We Demand Justice
The Guédot Lab is committed to equity, diversity, and justice within our research group, department, and the broader scientific community. We believe that Black lives matter.
We demand justice for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and too many other Black people murdered by police or white supremacists in our country. We stand alongside the movement for Black lives and the movement to dismantle systemic racism.
White supremacy is prevalent in academia and has existed since the advent of academic institutions. Black people are underrepresented at all levels in the sciences, including the field of entomology. Black academics face harassment, discrimination, and many other barriers to success that do not impact their white colleagues.
As scientists and academics, it is our duty to work to dismantle the white supremacy and racism that exist within our institutions.
We recognize that this work must extend far beyond the current moment. Our lab is committed to ongoing personal and lab group learning, discussion, and action. We will continue this conversation within our department and the broader entomology community.
We will post updates of this process as we make a plan of action. We encourage you to reach out and share what your lab is learning, discussing, and doing.
